Anchors on Fox News were in a celebratory mood on election night, as Donald Trump secured a path to victory to the White House, defeating Democrat Kamala Harris —and part of the celebration involved referring to him as a “phoenix” rising from the ashes.
Trump’s victory, which saw him secure a win after winning the three swing states of North Carolina, Georgia and Pennsylvania, was lauded on the conservative news network, as they also saw Republicans take the Senate.
As his victory continues to be praised by his powerful supporters following the election officially being called in his favor, Fox News was celebrating early.
The network called the election early — despite a large number of the votes in the crucial swing states still needing to be counted.
Capitalizing on his early lead in the electoral college, Bret Baier hailed his presumed win at the time as a major feat.
Baier made the comment as he referenced the events of January 6, 2021, when Trump, then the outgoing President of the United States, seemingly incited a mob of his supporters to the Capitol in an attempt to stop the certifying of Joe Biden’s win.
“Even that he’s here at this moment, from January 7th, 2021, until now — is probably the biggest political phoenix from the ashes that we have ever seen in the history of politics,” he said.
His comments and praise were echoed by Brit Hume.
“In the days after January 6th, I remember sitting there I think with you, Bret, and I said, ‘This guy, Trump, he’s radioactive. Republicans have turned against him. They want rid of him. He’s an obstacle, he’s a problem,’” he recalled.

“And I thought, I didn’t think a political comeback by him was possible, And yet, here we are. He is the toughest son of a gun I’ve ever seen, ever. I mean, all he’s had thrown at him? I would be in an insane asylum!” he added.
As of the time Fox News had called his victory, Trump has won North Carolina and Georgia, and was on the path to clinching Pennsylvania. He has also since clinched Wisconsin.
As of now, the race has not been called in Arizona, Nevada, and Michigan. However, Trump is projected to win them as well.
As of publication he won 277 of 270 needed electoral college votes. Harris stood at 224 votes.
